The exhibition "These questions pursue me as much as I pursue them" concludes a year-long seminar taught by Bouchra Khalili, visual artist, Professor, and head of Artistic Strategies at Die Angewandte. The seminar as a collaborative platform engaged attendees from various departments across the University, as well as lecturers of the Department of Artistic Strategies.
The first part of the seminar involved the making of the exhibition The weather is uncertain tonight, as is my soul which was shown at the University Gallery Heiligenkreuzerhof of the Angewandte (9.3.–6.5.2023). The exhibition brought together works by Etel Adnan, Yto Barrada, Yael Bartana, Bettina, Rosella Biscotti, Sharon Hayes, Leslie Hewitt, Lamia Joreige, Laure Prouvost, Otobong Nkanga, and Wu Tsang.
Thinking from, through, and with The weather is uncertain tonight, as is my soul and the individual practices within the collective, "These questions pursue me as much as I pursue them" also departs from Etel Adnan’s book Of Cities & Women (Letters to Fawwaz) and her multi-layered search for the fragments of her plural identities across history, geography, cultures, and languages.
For "These questions pursue me as much as I pursue them", the proponents of the seminar act as a collective with their singu- lar positions and practices across various media. With video, sculpture, performance, photography, writing, and drawing, the makers of this exhibition raise questions on notions of self-representation and language in relation to technological and normative apparatuses, the persisting power of storytelling and poetry, migration, belonging, and community.
"These questions pursue me as much as I pursue them" is a collaboratively developed exhibition project by Anahita Asadifar, Morgane Billuart, Keit Bonnici, Marei Buhmann, Theresa Hajek, Salphinah Savin, Julia Schmidt, Felix Schwentner, Ramiro Wong and Qianwen Zhu.
The opening night includes performances by Felix Schwentner, and Ramiro Wong. Performances and guided tours will be offered during the exhibition.
