„Nothing happens, again and again.
Nothing happens. And every time it does, it’s announced with a press release“ (1)
The increase of technological, economic and social accelerations strangely coincides with a diffuse sense of cultural and political stagnation. From the perspective of a present nervously running at idle it seems diffcult to project a euphoric vision of the future. Perhaps it can be approached by a stronger engagement with the unknown, by bringing coincidence into play or by means of devotion. The exhibition assembles works that refect the state of limbo and materialize notions of uncertainty in various ways. They form cracks and loopholes that offer glimpses into yet undetermined places. In the poem underlying the conception of the exhibition, called Der Radwechsel (Changing the wheel, 1953) by Bertolt Brecht, the lyrical subject fnds him- or herself stranded on the side of the road contemplating the dilemma of neither wanting to go back nor being keen to continue the journey as planned. Paradoxically, it is the feeling of impatience from which a silver lining emerges. The expectation of something … even if it may be the writing of this very poem.
